ENSEMBLE GALANTERIE

Ensemble Galanterie specializes in the wonderfully rich and rarely heard 18th-c. ensemble repertoire for obbligato lute.

I. 18th-C. LUTE CONCERTOS: HAYDN’S LUTE PLAYER

Music of Haydn, Kohaut, Kropfgans & Hagen
Trio (Lute, Violin & Cello)

This ensemble features one of North America’s foremost baroque violinists, Elizabeth Blumenstock.



II. AN EVENING WITH WILHELMINE

Frederick the Great’s sister Wilhelmine was instrumental in transforming Bayreuth into a Great center of culture, where she employed Adam Falckenhagen, who wrote exquisite Concerti for obbligato baroque lute, baroque flute and cello. Wilhelmine played lute and her Husband was a flutist, as was his brother-in-law Frederick the Great, who was surely familiar with these concerti for three instruments.

THE CZAR’S GUITARS

The Czar’s Guitars is a Russian Guitar duo dedicated to reviving the tradition of Russia’s all-but-forgotten national instrument. This ensemble features Oleg Timofeyev, the world’s leading authority on the Russian guitar and its repertoire.

The Czar’s Guitars explore the symphonic and operatic works of Mikhail Glinka, the father of Russian classical music.

SCHNEIDERMAN-YAMAYA DUO

Multi-instrumentalists John Schneiderman & Hideki Yamaya explore the plucked string duet repertoire from the 18th & 19th centuries.

Allow yourself to be transported to a 19th-c. salon and hear the beautiful sound of period guitars performing the music of German guitarist/composer Adam Darr and Austrian guitarist/composer Johann Kaspar Mertz, the “Chopin” of the guitar.
